Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is a treatment intervention used to bring an individual into a relaxed state of heightened focus and concentration. In addition to being used for relaxation and stress management, hypnosis can be used to target and change unwanted behaviors, feelings, or attitudes (for example, to stop smoking, lose weight, overcome fears, sleep better, and to control pain). Hypnosis can also be used to explore and work through trauma, relationship issues, and other nervous symptoms.
Hypnotherapy is the process of psychotherapy with a client who is in the hypnotic state.
Hypnosis in a clinical setting is not like stage show hypnotism where a person is instructed to “cluck like a chicken.” Although a person under hypnosis has increased receptiveness to suggestions, the client always remains in control and never loses control of his or her will.
